Māori-Inspired Necklaces & Pendants | MAORI WARRIORS
A pendant should be something you enjoy wearing, not something you have to build an outfit around. You might choose it for the shape, the detail you notice up close or a meaning that feels right for you.
MAORI WARRIORS brings these choices together. Our Māori-inspired pendants include hooks, shields, pointed forms and paired spirals. Some have a broad face with layers of detail. Others leave space between the curves, making the outline an important part of the design.
What gives each pendant its own look?
Compare Guardian Shield with Twin Koru. Guardian Shield has a wide front that gives it the feel of a personal emblem. Twin Koru uses two curling forms that mirror one another. The difference is in the whole shape, not simply the decoration on its surface.
When browsing, look at the main image once for the outline, then again for the details. Follow a line from one end to the other. Notice where it deepens, turns or opens into a space. This is a useful way to see what you actually like about a piece.
Five designs and the ideas behind them
These are the stories behind our own designs, rather than fixed meanings for every similar shape in Māori culture.
Modern Hook: moving forward
Modern Hook brings together strength, prosperity and the journey ahead. You might choose it to mark a new job, a move or a goal you have worked toward. It can also be a reminder to keep going when a plan changes.
Guardian Shield: protecting what matters
Guardian Shield is about protection, loyalty and what you carry forward. Its broad front and layered details suit the idea of standing by your people and your promises. As a gift, it could be a way to thank someone who has supported you.
Twin Koru: a connection between two people
Twin Koru uses two mirrored curls to express balance, connection and harmony. You might see it as two people growing together while keeping their own character. That can fit a friendship or a family bond as well as a romantic relationship.
Warrior Spear: courage and focus
Warrior Spear has a long shape, open details and a pointed tip. Its themes are courage, focus and protection. Consider it when you prefer a clear vertical line, or when you want to mark a decision you intend to follow through.
Koru Awakening: a fresh start
Koru Awakening opens outward from a central spiral. Its story is about growth, renewal and new beginnings. A fresh start might be something you celebrate with others, or something only you know about. This design leaves room for either.
Care for your pendant
Keep the pendant away from perfume, chemicals and hard knocks. After wearing it, gently wipe it with a soft cloth and store it separately.
See the size before you order
Draw the pendant's listed height and width on paper, cut out a rough shape and hold it against your usual shirt. This gives you a better sense of its size than a close-up photograph alone.
Check whether the stated height includes the hanging loop or only the pendant body. If that is not clear, ask before ordering. Also compare width and thickness: a broad pendant and a narrow one can have the same height but look quite different on the chest.
A paper shape will not tell you the weight or how the piece hangs. Use it to judge scale, then check the product details and any worn or side-view photographs for the rest.
Work out where it will sit
Try a chain you already own, or loosely hold a length of string around your neck, to find a position you like. Check it with a crew-neck T-shirt and an open shirt, not only against bare skin.
Remember that the pendant hangs below the chain. A longer pendant adds more drop, so two designs on the same chain can finish at different points on the chest.
Using your own chain? Check the size of the pendant's hanging loop, sometimes called a bail. The chain's end fitting needs to pass through it too. A chain can look slim enough while its clasp is too large to fit.
Choosing a pendant as a gift
Start with the size and shape the person already likes. Then use the story to make the choice more personal. Guardian Shield might come with a note saying, “Thank you for always being there.” Twin Koru might simply say, “This made me think of us.”
There is no need to explain every part of the design. A few words about why you chose it are enough.
Before you choose
Is a chain included?
Confirm the included items and chain length for the pendant you choose. A chain shown in a photograph is not enough to confirm what comes with the order.
Do I need to choose a pendant for its meaning?
No. Choose it because you like wearing it. The story can add to that choice without having to describe your whole life.
Where can I compare the stories in more detail?
Read our design and meaning guide. It explains how related shapes have different stories across the collection.
Find your pendant
Pick the designs that catch your eye, compare their measurements and imagine them with your everyday clothes. The final choice does not have to be the biggest or most detailed piece. It should be the one you look forward to wearing.
